First in Thought

I certainly never planned on writing a blog.

I have a feeling the universe is laughing at my younger self, who hated putting her thoughts down in writing so much that one of the best sounding things about being an artist was the opportunity to be expressive in a purely visual medium, with no need to explain things in words.

Now, if you have even a passing familiarity with the business of art, you’ll know how ridiculous a thought that was. People are constantly asking you for statements explaining your thought process, and about what inspired you, and about your artistic vision, whatever that really means.

They’ll also ask in person, requiring an off-the-cuff mini oral presentation that I’m somehow never expecting. But, over the years I’ve mostly made my peace with all of the writing and explaining that being an artist entails, and I’ve even taken some baby steps into more serious writing; some short poems, some ideas for children’s books; maybe more, maybe less.

I can’t promise to be the most consistent blogger, but I’m looking forward to having a place to put down my long-form thoughts. I suppose we’ll see if anyone is actually interested.
